Sam Altman: The world doesn't need a Google clone
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, believes that trying to develop a search engine to replace Google is boring and not worth paying attention to.
On Lex Fridman's podcast on March 18, Sam Altman was asked about ChatGPT's future against Google. OpenAI CEO said he doesn't care about beating Google in search because "that's boring".
When Fridman compared the answers of ChatGPT and Google Search, Altman said the purpose of developing ChatGPT was completely different. "I don't think the world needs another copy of Google," Altman said. "What's exciting to me is that we can create some better ways of helping people find and aggregate information."

However, Google leaders do not think like young billionaires. In early 2023, CNBC quoted sources saying that Google has launched an internal project called Atlas. This is a plan labeled " code red " to confront ChatGPT. In addition, Google also tested the Apprentice Bard chatbot, where employees can ask questions and receive detailed answers similar to OpenAI's product. After that, generative AIs such as Bard and Gemini were introduced one after another to compete with OpenAI.
Also in the interview with Fridman, Altman also gave many compliments to Elon Musk, despite the two sides having disagreements over their views on AI development. Altman said Musk is a wonderful person and one of the "great architects of our time", at least in the field of technology.
"I respect him a lot. I think we need Musk. We should all support him," the OpenAI CEO said.
However, when mentioning that the South African-born billionaire is suing OpenAI, Altman said that Musk should have sympathized with OpenAI's big dream because he also showed enthusiasm when talking about his dream of launching a spacecraft into the air. time.
"The lawsuit makes me and many people sad - people who have really admired him for a long time," Altman said.
