Mercedes-AMG C 63 SE Performance super sedan is about to be sold in Vietnam

The flagship model of the C-class is expected to return to Vietnam by the end of 2023, equipped with a powerful plug-in hybrid engine of 671 horsepower, accelerating from 0-100 km / h in 3.4 seconds.

The representative of Mercedes Vietnam confirmed the plan to sell the German imported AMG C 63 SE Performance model in November. This is the second high-performance model of the C-class to be distributed to Vietnamese customers. In August, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 model assembled at its factory in Go Vap district, Ho Chi Minh City will reach consumers.

The Mercedes-AMG C 63 SE Performance is the most expensive, powerful and premium variant of the C-class. The E in the name refers to the electric powertrain present on this high-performance sedan.

The C 63 SE Performance differs from its V8-powered predecessor when it uses a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine also provided by AMG. This engine comes with an electronic twin turbocharger, for a capacity of 470 horsepower. This is the most powerful inline 4-cylinder machine in the world.

An electric motor with a capacity of 201 horsepower is mounted on the rear axle of the C 63 S, with an electronic differential system and a 2-speed transmission. The car has a total capacity of 671 hp and 1,020 Nm of torque. The old generation of C 63 S uses a 4.0 V8 engine with a capacity of 503 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque.

The 6.1 kWh battery powers the electric motor, which only produces a maximum capacity of 201 hp for about 10 seconds at a time. Standing power is kept at 95 hp. From the speed range of 140 km/h or more, the electric motor switches to second gear.

Together with the all-wheel drive system, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 SE Performance accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Top speed 280 km/h. When operating purely on electricity, the Mercedes model rolls the most 13 km, the maximum speed is 125 km / h. The battery can be charged externally.

The design of the C 63 SE Performance has many similarities with the C 43, both inside and out. Currently, the price of the car has not been announced by the German company. The car competes with rivals BMW M3 Competition or Audi RS4, but both are not sold genuine in Vietnam.

The C 63 series was also sold by Mercedes in Vietnam, but the supply was uneven and often interrupted. The last time the C 63 S was delivered to Vietnamese customers was in 2015. However, the German company's strategy will change from 2023 when, in addition to electric cars, the company will promote the segment of high-performance sports cars in Vietnam and globally.

"It is true that many years before Covid-19, Mercedes focused on the number of cars sold, ie market share," Matthias Lührs, head of Mercedes' international car division, told VnExpress at a meeting earlier this month . 6. "But during that Covid period, we had time to look back on everything and realize that we need to change the strategy in the product and the way that Mercedes brings luxury products to customers."

According to the German company, for many years, to serve the goal of expanding sales, the company has focused on developing entry-level models such as A-class, B-class or even the entry-level segment. higher and mid-range like C-class , E-class . In the global market, Mercedes and BMW compete for the number one position in the luxury car segment.
In Vietnam, Mercedes has been dominating the market share for more than 5 years. Mercedes' sales average more than 6,000 cars per year, an even larger number than BMW's sales in the last 4 years combined. The brand closest to Mercedes is Lexus, which sells only 25% of the German company's sales.

Through the competition for sales, Mercedes now prioritizes the improvement of product and service quality to strengthen the brand power. The company said that it will completely reduce entry-level cars such as A-class, B-class (not common in Vietnam), promote as much as possible in the middle segment such as C-class, E-class, GLC .

"We are also developing the most advanced segment in the product portfolio (Top-end) such as S-class , GLS , Maybach, AMG and even electric cars also have Top-end models such as EQS and EQS SUV. ", added Mr. Matthias Lührs.
